The Perfect Couple Is a Showcase of Wealthy Blonde Women
It’s been a little while since we had a murderous satire eviscerating the rich, right? Triangle of Sadness, the Knives Out movies, Big Little Lies, The Menu, and both seasons of White Lotus all feel so long ago now. Enter The Perfect Couple. Adapted from the New York Times best-selling novel by Elin Hilderbrand of the same name, the six-episode limited series is a new entry in that illustrious genre, and it promises to be just as campy, murderous, and “wealthy without making you feel complicit in wealth” as anything that came before it. It even has some of its forbearers’ stars. If you still have room in your heart for this genre, we’ve compiled everything we know about this particular example, including the cast, the trailer, and the premiere date.
Who’s starring in it?
Most importantly, The Perfect Couple convinced movie-theater queen Nicole Kidman to trade in her power suit for a mother-of-the-groom dress. She will star as Greer Garrison Winbury, a famous and wealthy novelist who is planning the perfect wedding for her son (Billy Howle) and his bride, whom she disapproves of (Eve Hewson). However, the wedding comes to a halt when a body is found washed up on the beach. Liev Schreiber, Dakota Fanning, Meghann Fahy, Omar Epps, Ishaan Khattar, Jack Reynor, Sam Nivola, Mia Isac, Donna Lynne Champlin, and Isabelle Adjani round out the rest of the cast murder suspects as they begin filming next week.
Behind the scenes, Awkward. and Good Girls’s Jenna Lamia will be showrunning the limited series, and The Undoing’s Susanne Bier shall direct. While the adaptation has made some creative changes from the source material, like the bride’s name change from Celeste Otis to Amelia Sacks, those differences may leave room for more mysteries and changes for fans of the original book.
What’s the trailer like?
In the trailer, Nicole Kidman wears very large sunglasses, Dakota Fanning is ominous and pregnant, and Meghann Fahy says, “I see you, bitch.” In other words: The blondes are taking it. This show, it turns out, is about blonde women eating. There have been way worse premises for shows in the past. Also, someone was probably murdered, but that’s much less fun.
When does it come out?
The Perfect Couple premieres on Netflix September 5. Make sure to put away the bleach and tone utensils before you watch. Otherwise, you just may be influenced to go autumn blonde.
