PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A man killed in a drive-by shooting on July 7 in Southeast Portland has been identified by authorities.

According to the Portland Police Bureau, 49-year-old Portland resident Walter E. Mulberry was killed in the shooting that happened near Southeast 9th Avenue in the Buckman Neighborhood just after 1 a.m.

Mulberry was identified as working as a security guard at the time of the shooting and his family, who provided a photo of him for the public, was notified, officials said. A medical examiner confirmed the cause of death was "homicide by gunshot."

A 17-year-old boy was also injured in the shooting.

PPB's Thursday update on the case did not include additional information about any suspects but they did say the case was still being actively investigated by homicide detectives. However, police said earlier this week that no arrests had been made.

During the initial investigation, officers found evidence suggesting dozens of shots had been fired, as well as multiple parked cars and other objects in the area struck by bullets.

Both the man and the teen were taken to the hospital, but the man soon died from his injuries. The teen is expected to survive.

Police said they think the suspect or suspects fired shots from a moving vehicle towards a group of people on a nearby sidewalk.

A GoFundMe page has been set up by Mulberry's family to help fund his memorial.

Anyone who has information about the shooting is encouraged to contact police.
