Judge stalls special election on Norman entertainment district project

NORMAN, Okla. (KFOR) — A Cleveland County District Judge granted a temporary injunction to postpone the vote to approve the Norman entertainment district project after two former mayors filed a lawsuit on Tuesday.

Former Norman mayors Bill Nations and Dick Reynolds filed a lawsuit against the Norman City Council and Cleveland County Election Board on June 9, which claims placing the entertainment district project on the ballot as a resolution is an improper legislative act.

On June 11, Norman City Council voted to place resolution on the ballot with a vote of 6-3.

If approved, the $1 billion project would be funded in part by tax revenue for up to 25 years, with a total of up to $600 million in funding to support the project.
