A DAD has revealed that he regrets the name he gave to his daughter, and would be happy if she decided to change it.

He said that when he was younger he was a “self-righteous hippy” who thought that the name was “cool and unique”.

However, now that he is older, he has come to regret the name.

Taking to Reddit, the Dad explained: “My hippy baby mama and I named our kid Eleven.

“This was before the Stranger Things came out.

“We thought it was mystical, beautiful, and cool and unique and we were annoying self-righteous hippies.”

The dad said that his daughter is now a teenager, and still goes by Eleven, despite the fact that he has always assumed that she would want to change it.

He said that his daughter jokes that at least no one will ever forget her name.

Eleven is the name of the main character in the Netflix science fiction series Stranger Things.

In the series, the girl is called Eleven, as that is the number that is tattooed onto her wrist when she is taken away from her family, and made to live in a laboratory, whilst scientific experiments are performed on her.

Thankfully, the dad said that his daughter loves Stranger Things, but he still wishes he had chosen a different name for her.

He said: “I feel bad sometimes, and constantly get asked what the deal is with her name.

“It’s definitely something I regret now, but I also love my kid, and her weird name is part of her story.

“I won’t be mad if she starts going by Elle or something though.”

The post was flooded with comments from social media users, and opinions on the name were divided.

Banned Names in the UK

The UK has no law restricting names, but names that contain obscenities, numerals, misleading titles, or are impossible to pronounce are likely to be rejected when registering a child.

  • Hitler
  • Monkey
  • Cyanide
  • Martian
  • Akuma
  • Chow Tow
  • Rogue

One person said: “Naming a child is not like creating a fictional character.

“It’s unfair to saddle a child with an intentionally wacky name because you want to provoke reactions in strangers.”

Another person said: “Why would you name your kid something if you assume they would want to change it”.

A third chimed in: “I definitely thought of Stranger Things immediately, but I also kind of genuinely like the sound of it.”

A fourth added: “Evelyn would be a very easy name change from Eleven. Literally just switching the L and V sounds.”
