Lafayette's PARC director discusses end goal for Brown Park renovation
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY)-- On Wednesday, the Lafayette Consolidated Government held a public meeting at the Dupuis Recreation Center to discuss the continued renovation of Brown Park.
"We have a lot of baseball Mega Parks in the parish that do not break even crosswise. Our budgets for the maintenance and operation of these turf fields have yet to exist today. We are still working on how we operate and maintain this quality of investment," Mayor-President Boulet said during the first public meeting.
Boulet rejected plans to spend $30 million on converting Brown Park into a Mega Sports Complex.
"This meeting tonight is a reflection on going back to the community to share with them those amenities that we were able to fit into the budget and to be able to bring into fruition within this project," Tim Sensley, Lafayette's Parks, Arts, Recreation & Culture (PARC) director, said.
A budget of about $17 million has been allocated for the revamping of the space.
Sensley wants to re-emphasize the main focus of the public meetings: gathering input and ideas from the community, "such as having a walking trail, such as having a dog park, pavilions, and a walking trail with benches along the way," Sensely said.
