Austin's HAAM Day returns with hundreds of live music performances this fall

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Health Alliance for Austin Musicians (HAAM) will host its annual HAAM Day Sept. 24, with hundreds of live music performances free and open to the public.

HAAM launched in 2005 as a resource to provide affordable health care for low-income and underinsured working musicians in Austin. The organization aids more than 3,000 musicians each year in accessing dental, hearing, vision, wellness, specialty care programs and health care navigation services, per a Wednesday news release.

HAAM Day serves as the organization's largest fundraiser. This year's event will feature more than 250 live music performances from over 300 musicians at more than 100 venues in town, the release added.

South by Southwest and PNC serve as sponsors of this year's event. HAAM is also collaborating with Austin-based artist Zuzu Perkal, who's designing all the HAAM Day artwork.

"Music and art are deeply intertwined, each supporting, energizing, and inspiring the other,” Perkal said in the release. “Music heals us from the inside out, and my art is intentionally designed to do the same. This year's HAAM Day artwork features a vibrant and funky color palette, reminding us to stay groovy and be happy. Like the artwork, life is abundant and blossoming all around us. Art and music enliven the spirit and culture of our city, and I'm honored to be part of this special project supporting our beloved local musicians."
