Padres take on Daddies
The Family Trip continues with Game 2 of the 2024 Veder Cup. The Mariners, with their wives and children in tow, will try to score at least seven runs twice in a row for the first time in 2024. But it’s been a road trip of firsts already, with Cal Raleigh becoming the first player to homer from both sides of the plate twice as a Mariner and Gregory Santos making his first appearance in 2024.
On the latter point, wowzer. I loved him in 2023 and was extremely excited about the trade for him, but I didn’t really have a take on him as a person/entertainer until last night. But in one inning, I’m already prepared to take a bullet for him.
Still recovering from injury, he probably won’t pitch back-to-back days, but we will see Bryce Miller get the start tonight and continue to show off the Michael Bauman-inspired spike curve, that Kate wrote up here.
Lineups
Despite the right-handed Michael King pitching for the Friars, Dylan Moore gets the start in left, because Dominic Canzone has hit the Injured List. Jonatan Clase has been called up in his absence, but I’m expecting him to mostly play a bench role.
