Kansas 8th grader makes two holes-in-one, beating 67 million to 1 odds

The unlikelihood, did not stop a 13-year-old from Hesston from accomplishing the feat.

HESSTON, Kan. (KSNW) — The National Registry of Hole-in-Ones says the odds of two holes-in-one in a round of golf are 67 million to 1. The unlikelihood did not stop a 13-year-old from Hesston from accomplishing the feat.

Most golfers would be happy to say they had a hole-in-one during a round of golf. Eighth-grader Evan Koehn had two of them in his first round at a junior golf tournament in Andover.

Evan's tournament group celebrated after the first hole-in-one.

"I'm pretty shy sometimes, and there's probably kids in my group that were more excited than I was about it. I kind of just stood there and could not believe that it just dropped," said Evan.

He started his first round of the tournament on the back nine at Terradyne Country Club. The first ace came on hole 12, he said, and by the time he lined up for his second ace on hole eight, a crowd tuned in.

"There's a group in front of us they were watching, then the group behind us, they were watching, and then there are a bunch of parents watching, so it was fun to hit another one, it was shocking still," said Evan.

Evan's mom, Rebecca Koehn, said she was anxiously waiting to hear from Evan's dad about how her son was shot during the round.

"He went silent at the end and never told me how he finished, and he's like, well, don't look at the score. He wants to call you, and so he called, and I never dreamed it would've been two holes-in-one that he hit," said Rebecca.

She said watching Evan grow up through the game of golf has been rewarding.

"It's just been fun to watch him blossom; he's played with some of the kids on the high school team; being in junior high, just watching him form those relationships has been pretty neat to see come from golf," said Rebecca.

Evan said the two hole-in-one rounds had given him family bragging rights over his father.

"He hit one last year and I hit two in one round, and I'm already beating him in how many hole-in-ones we've hit," said Evan.

He hopes to keep shooting for Aces this school year.

While Evan didn't have any hole-in-ones in the second round on Tuesday, he said he can't wait to play for Hesston's high school team after next year. He hopes to play the game of golf and continue his career for as long as possible.
