Afghan families struggle in Albania: waiting for asylum resolutions amid depression

They demand expedited processing of their cases and claim that Albania’s government support for them is dwindling.

Representatives of these families stated in an open letter that they lack access to opportunities for work and education.

They stated that this situation, coupled with the lack of resolution on their migration cases, has left Afghan families in Albania in a state of psychological distress and depression.

These families were evacuated from Kabul by some American organizations. Many Afghans who were transferred to Albania after the collapse of the previous Afghan government have been relocated to the United States or Canada.

Part of the letter from these Afghans states that accepting residence in Albania is not a fair option for them and that transferring them to another third country would further prolong the processing of their migration cases.

Ensuring timely and fair processing of asylum cases and providing adequate support for Afghan families in Albania is crucial to addressing their needs and ensuring their well-being.

This situation is compounded by the dire humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan and persecution by the Taliban regime, making it impossible for Afghan migrants to return home.
