ROCKAWAY BEACH, Queens (PIX11) -- The FDNY's Robotics Unit caught lifeguards in Queens performing a rescue near the water Sunday, according to officials.

Swimmers were seen struggling by a jetty near Beach 91st Street, Rockaway Beach, around 5 p.m., according to the FDNY's social media. New York City Park's lifeguards can be seen from the FDNY drone swimming action to help the victims who got stuck between rocks.

The victims were removed from the jetty safely, according to officials.

Mayor Eric Adams said lifeguard staffing is improving after years of hiring issues. New York City has about 800 lifeguards citywide due to enhanced pay and bonuses and streamlined training requirements with the lifeguards union.
