Embracing failure: Cyprus joins international trend

Failure is often kept quiet and hidden, pushed to the background of success stories. But what if failure became a celebrated part of the journey, a stepping stone to growth and resilience? Fuckup Nights, a global phenomenon, is now making waves in Cyprus, following its debut in Limassol.

In Cyprus, the movement is spearheaded by two passionate entrepreneurs, Maria Sibirtseva and Alla Reveko. “Since the early days of my career, I’ve been immersed in this event series worldwide. It was a pivotal moment sharing my failures in front of a supportive audience,” says Maria who has spoken at Fuckup Nights Almaty in Kazakhstan.

Inspired by Maria’s transformative experience, Alla joined forces with her: “We saw a gap in Cyprus for discussions on failure in a professional context. It’s about normalising setbacks and showcasing that success often comes after failure.”

The motivation behind bringing Fuckup Nights to Cyprus was clear for Maria and Alla. “The opportunity to bring the worldwide event franchise to Cyprus came at just the right time in our lives,” Alla adds, highlighting their combined marketing and public speaking experience.

The debut of Fuckup Nights in Limassol at Cinema Bar end of May was a great success. The event drew a vibrant community eager to share, learn, and laugh about the missteps that shape our professional journeys. Inspiring speakers with different industry backgrounds in Cyprus shared their personal stories of failure and growth. Their speeches highlighted that failures are not the end but part of the journey towards future success.

With Cyprus’ business landscape evolving rapidly, Fuckup Nights Limassol aims to create a community that embraces imperfection. “It’s about shedding light on the path to success, which isn’t always smooth. By sharing our failures openly, we hope to inspire others to learn and grow from their own,” says Maria.

And the benefits for the local community are profound. “We want to show that there is no shame in failure,” Alla adds. “Success often follows a series of setbacks, and it’s important to learn from these experiences.” Maria sees Fuckup Nights as a platform for personal and professional development: “Attendees will gain confidence, broaden their outlook, and connect with like-minded individuals.”

Organising the first Fuckup Nights Limassol posed challenges, particularly in finding willing speakers. “Many were initially hesitant to share their failures publicly,” Maria admits. “But after our successful debut, interest has grown, and we now have a lineup of inspiring speakers for future events.” There were logistical challenges too: “Organising a large-scale event with just the two of us was daunting, but our prior marketing experience and support from friends and family made it possible.”

Looking forward, Maria and Alla have ambitious plans for Fuckup Nights in Cyprus. “In 2024, we plan to host four events in Limassol,” says Maria. “Each event will be larger and more engaging, with networking opportunities to foster deeper connections within our community,” adds Alla.

Fuckup Nights is more than just a series of events. It is a global movement that embraces failure as a catalyst for growth. Originating in Mexico, this phenomenon has spread to 62 countries, attracting over a million attendees worldwide. At each event, speakers bravely share their stories of failure – business ventures gone wrong, partnerships that faltered, and products that missed the mark. The goal is simple: to destigmatise failure and highlight its transformative power.

In conclusion, Fuckup Nights Limassol represents a new chapter in Cyprus’ cultural and business landscape. It’s about embracing failure, learning from it, and building resilience. Maria and Alla are at the forefront of this movement, driven by their passion to create a community where authenticity and growth go hand in hand.

As Fuckup Nights continues to grow in Cyprus, it promises to inspire and empower individuals to embrace their failures as valuable lessons on the path to success.
