According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United have now submitted a big offer for Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite, who is rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar.

Man Utd return with offer for Branthwaite

The reports linking Branthwaite with a move to Spurs have not dissipated, with the print edition of the Daily Mail earlier this month (03/07/24 – page 67) claiming last week that the North London club are still keeping tabs on the young defender.

The report suggested that United could battle the Lilywhites for the player, adding that the Red Devils had already seen their opening offer turned down by Everton.

If Romano’s latest update is to be believed, Erik Ten Hag’s side have now returned with a new bid worth £45m plus £5m in add-ons for Branthwaite.

However, the journalist states that this is not expected to be enough to clinch the deal, with the Toffees thought to be holding out for £65m-£70m for the former Carlisle United player.

Tottenham have also been linked with the Everton defender

Romano took to X last night to write: “Manchester United have sent new bid to Everton for Jarred Branthwaite tonight: £45m fixed fee plus £5m add-ons.

“The proposal is formal and official, as @ChrisWheelerDM has reported.

“Everton insist on £65/70m price for Branthwaite, no deal again at this stage.”

Meanwhile, according to The Sun’s latest update, the 21-year-old has already agreed personal terms with the Manchester club ahead of a potential summer move to Old Trafford.

Spurs Web Opinion

It is quite clear that Tottenham withdrew from the race for Branthwaite the moment they signed Radu Dragusin from Genoa in January.

It would make no sense for the Lilywhites to shell out over £50m on another centre-back this summer unless they fear that Cristian Romero would be leaving.
