It has now emerged that Japhet Tanganga, who is set to sign for Millwall on a permanent basis, is expected to become the highest-paid player at the Championship side.

Tottenham released Tanganga last month

Tanganga secured a loan move away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last September when he joined German outfit Augsburg on what was expected to be a season-long switch with an option to make the move permanent.

The move proved to be a disaster with the defender failing to play a minute of football due to injury issues and a change of manager at the Bundesliga club and returned to Tottenham in January.

After years of injuries and lack of game time, Tanganga received some much-needed competitive minutes at Millwall on loan in the second half of last season and he was been one of the standout defenders in the Championship during his spell at the club.

The defender made 18 Championship appearances, scoring two goals for the Lions, helping them steer well clear of relegation (Transfernarkt).

The centre-back, who came through the academy ranks at Hotspur Way, was released by Tottenham last month and it emerged a few days ago that he was about to sign a deal with Millwall.

Japhet Tanganga is rebuilding his career at Millwall

This information was carried by journalist Luca Bendoni, who revealed that the Spurs academy graduate had agreed on a two-year contract with an option of a one-year extension with the South London side.

Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth has now revealed that Tanganga will become the highest-paid player in the Championship club’s books.

The journalist wrote on Sky’s live transfer blog about the former Tottenham man: “It is understood he will be the highest-paid player at the club (Milwall).”

Spurs Web Opinion

If Tanganga manages to stay fit, he is undoubtedly too good for the Championship as he has all the qualities needed to evolve into a top centre-back.

I am certain that it will not be too long before the 25-year-old is back in the Premier League.
