I scooped £500k on People’s Postcode Lottery but won’t spend a penny on my wife… I have my own plans
A MAN who scooped £500,000 on the Postcode Lottery said he won’t splurge on his wife and has his own plans on how to spend the cash.
Mark Wilson, 62, this week scooped the six-figure sum in the People’s Postcode Lottery.
The keen vinyl collector plans on adding to his stash of over 4,000 records, and he’ll even splash out on a house extension and loft conversion to make space for them all.
He said: “You have no idea how much room 4,000 records take up.
“We can get an extension and a loft conversion now.
“From rock, pop, classical, reggae, you name it, I’ve got it, but I’ve still got my eye on more.
“I don’t know what the world would be like without music. I love sitting down with a cuppa and relaxing to some music.”
Mark’s vast collection includes all of The Beatles box sets and one of his prized possessions is a 1971 original pressing of Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon.
The Hertfordshire engineer, and wife Billie, first started buying tickets eight years ago but cancelled their subscription.
The engineer and four of his neighbours in Borehamwood after their postcode – WD6 2SL – won the £1 Million Millionaire Street draw.
Wife Billie has said that she will now be able to reduce her working hours at the supermarket.
She said: “I won’t need to do as much overtime.”
Mark’s house-expansion plans will also include a new bathroom at Billie’s request.
Mark admitted that his wife has been asking him for a downstairs bathroom since they moved into the property over three years ago.
Mark jokingly said: “You can have your toilet downstairs now, dear. That’s all she’s interested in.”
Billie, who has autism, can often find social interaction challenging.
This meant the couple had to cancel a holiday to Egypt, and also missed Taylor Swift’s sold-out Wembley show.
Mark said: “It was really sad because she’s always wanted to see Taylor Swift and we still have the tickets sitting there unused.
“But, who knows, with this money one day it might happen.”
Adoring Mark said: “I’ve never been lucky apart from finding Billie. She’s changed my life and whatever we’ll do with the money, we’ll put it to good use.”
The other four winners on Hackney Close bagged £125,000 each. They were all either unavailable or chose to remain anonymous.
How does the People's Postcode Lottery work?
ACCORDING to the official website, players sign up with their postcode and pay £12 per month.
They are automatically entered into every draw and prizes are announced every day of the month.
Tickets play for prizes every day of the week – from Monday to Sunday, a ticket could win £1,000 each day in the Daily Prize.
Tickets could also win a jackpot of £30,000 in Saturday and Sunday’s Street Prize draws.
People’s Postcode Lottery also offer a £3 Million Postcode Millions draw each month – and your ticket plays for a share of a £3 Million cash prize fund.
Winners are notified by email, SMS message, mail or phonecall depending on the prize they win.
Jackpot winners are visited by the lottery team in person.
