We Can't Stop Making Taylor Fritz's Signature Spicy Marg

U.S. tennis player Taylor Fritz is riding a high going into the Wimbledon quarter finals. He's had a good run recently, winning the Rothesay International Eastbourne Tennis Tournament 2024 for the third time on June 29 and on July 8, beating top-five-ranked Alexander Zverev in the Wimbledon round of 16. Once he's finished with the tournament, he’ll hopefully get a little time off to enjoy another of his favorite things: tequila.

The 13th ranked player on the men’s tour is a fan of the agave-based spirit, and has only grown to love it more since becoming an ambassador for Maestro Dobel—one of our favorite tequila brands—in 2022. His love of tequila stretches back to his upbringing in southern California.

"There's a lot of influence being so close to Mexico, and tequila was always my go-to drink,” he says.

While being a brand ambassador for a major tequila might sound like a challenge for a top athlete, Fritz doesn’t think so. 

“It doesn't impact time spent on the court,” he says. “I’ve gotten to be a guest bartender at a few tournaments, mix cocktails for fans, and spend time with other ambassadors including [tennis players] Aryna Sabalenka and Juan Martin del Potro.”

Besides getting to stir up drinks, Fritz even finds the partnership one that benefits his well-being: “It's [good] for my mental health when I get time off to enjoy myself and have a little fun,” he says. “I’ll have tequila when I have more than just a few days off to chill, and it gets me excited to be back on the court.”

In those times, he prefers to enjoy his tequila in a margarita. “My favorite way to drink tequila is in a cocktail, and especially in my signature cocktail I made with Dobel this year: Fritzy Spicy Margarita. It’s made with Dobel Diamante and has a kick.”

Fritzy Spicy Margarita Recipe

Ingredients

• 2 oz Dobel Diamante Cristalino
• 1 oz lime juice
• 0.75 oz agave nectar
• 1 or 2 jalapeños
• Jalapeño slice, for garnish
• Black lava salt, for rim
• Ice

Directions 

1. Rim glass with salt. 
2. Shake all ingredients well. 
3. Pour over fresh ice and garnish with jalapeño.
