Celtics Continue Trend By Re-Signing Guard To Two-Way Deal

The Boston Celtics have spent the offseason bringing back members of their championship team.

And they continued that trend Monday with a minor move.

The Celtics announced they re-signed JD Davison to a two-way contract. This is the third time the Celtics have signed the 21-year-old guard to a two-way deal since selecting the Alabama product in the second round of the 2022 NBA Draft.

Davison, who will play for Boston in Summer League action, spent the majority of the last two seasons playing in the G League — he appeared in just 20 games total over the last two seasons with the Celtics and most of his minutes came in garbage time. He showed plenty of promise in the G League this past season when he averaged 20.8 points, 8.6 assists, 5.4 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 0.8 blocks in 28 games.

The athletic 6-foot-3, 195-pound guard is a work in progress as a shooter. He shot just 26.6% from the 3-point range on 5.1 attempts per game during the 2023-24 campaign.

There won’t be much room once again for Davison to crack Boston’s rotation. He is very far down on the depth chart, which made it somewhat surprising that he decided to come back to the Celtics and not try for an opportunity elsewhere.

Davison is the second two-way contract the Celtics have handed out this offseason. They also re-signed Drew Peterson to a two-way deal last week and have one more two-way contract available.
