BACK TO BLACK actress Marisa Abela has revealed she is engaged after her boyfriend Jamie popped the question.

The star found global fame playing Amy Winehouse on the big screen – and she said “yes” in one of the singer’s favourite places.

Biopic Back To Black charted Amy’s rise while living in Camden, North London, to becoming a global superstar.

And in a sweet nod to the singer Marisa‘s partner, West End star Jamie Bogyo, chose nearby Primrose Hill to get down on one knee.

He sahred the moment on Instagram and wrote alongside his pictures: “She said she’ll think about it!” with Marisa replying: “A weeping mess.”

Marisa first found fame as posh and seductive investment banker Yasmin in sex-fuelled BBC drama Industry.

She went on to be cast in the Sam Taylor-Johnson-directed movie Back To Black last year.

But the film, also featuring Skins star Jack O’Connell as Amy’s ex-husband Blake Fielder-Civil, was hit by backlash from fans who branded it “evil and morally wrong.”

It drew criticism for “ghoulish” depictions of Amy’s drink and drug addiction leading up to her death in 2011 at the age of 27.

Before finding fame Marisa was set on becoming a human rights lawyer, and accepted a place at University College London to study history.

But she turned it down in favour of a spot at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art down the road, due to her family being in the entertainment industry.

Her mum is actress Caroline Gruber and her dad, Angelo Abela, a movie director and producer.

Speaking to Air Mail, she said: “I think I rebelled against it because I could see it took a lot of gumption . . . and it scared me quite a bit.”

She found her big break in 2019 as Yasmin in Industry, a series about young finance graduates in a cut-throat world following the 2008 banking crash.

She said about winning the role: “Basically, everyone in their final year of drama school was auditioning for these parts.

“Because the whole premise was ‘We need these unknowns from London, and they actually should be 22-year-olds.”
