Captain Arenas is a minimalist apartment located in Barcelona, Spain, designed by Miriam Barrio. Central to the design is a large window on the main facade, facilitating an integration with the natural surroundings. The use of continuous flooring both indoors and outdoors enhances this connection, providing a seamless flow between spaces. Flexibility is a hallmark of Japanese design, evident in this apartment through adaptable spaces. Folding doors between the master bedroom and the living room, along with a convertible dining table, offer multifunctionality, catering to varying daily needs. The living room sofa transforms into a large futon, optimizing space and functionality.

Natural materials play a pivotal role, infusing the space with a Mediterranean touch. Raffia panels and oak wood custom furniture add warmth and highlight the natural beauty of the materials. The private areas are cleverly designed to offer privacy when needed, with sliding folding doors for the master bedroom and a concealed door behind a shelf that leads to the bathroom, dressing room, and second bedroom. Lighting is meticulously planned to enhance the ambiance, with an emphasis on natural light during the day and soft, warm artificial lighting at night to create a relaxing atmosphere. The thoughtful arrangement of furniture and the careful selection of colors and materials achieve a harmonious and balanced aesthetic.
