Duvin Design has partnered with beach footwear and apparel brand Reef to release a limited edition summer capsule collection featuring two new sandals. Releasing on July 9, the nostalgia-inspired collection draws from 1980s beach culture and Reef products.
Duvin explored Reef’s archives when creating the collection; the team was influenced by the company’s designs, colors and marketing materials from 1984, when Reef was first founded by brothers Fernando and Santiago Aguerre. The official press release reads, “The sandals, featuring Reef’s acclaimed comfort and style, are available in vibrant hues such as lime and navy, perfect for a day at the beach or a stroll down the boardwalk.”
One of the shoes styles features two thick straps that stretch across the foot. The sole reads, “Summer of ’84 Reef Sandals by Duvin Design.”
Explaining the selected color scheme, the press release reads, “The collection features various levels of neon yellow, paying homage to the vibrant 80s and the prominent neon colors that dominated the beaches.”
The other shoe style is a traditional flip flop. One option features a green and white floral design on the sole while another has a brown and black animal print pattern; both flip-flops have light yellow thong-style straps.
In addition to shoes, the six-piece collection includes a hat, a tee, a swim trunk and a one-piece bathing suit, with price points between $34 and $68.
“Duvin brings a fun, lighthearted, and nostalgic vibe to the beach that really aligns with everything Reef
stands for,” said Taylor Leopold, category director of men’s product at Reef. “As we celebrate four
decades of Reef this year, there is a clear opportunity to offer consumers something fun and unexpected with a bold personality. This milestone is the perfect occasion to infuse our offerings with the vibrant and playful spirit that has been a hallmark of our brand for four decades.”
Austin Duvall, co-founder and creative director of Duvin, also commented on the partnership: “We love to look for ways to use our nostalgic lens through partnerships with top tier brands. It’s been fun to collaborate with a brand that has been around for such a long time, as there were endless opportunities to pull from their archives for inspiration.”
