Arsenal Close to Signing Riccardo Calafiori

Arsenal are on the brink of securing the signature of Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna, edging out competition from Chelsea. The 22-year-old Italian defender has caught the eye with his impressive performances both at club level and in Euro 2024.

Calafiori’s journey to prominence began when he joined Bologna from FC Basel last summer for a modest £4.2 million. His debut season saw him make 33 appearances, playing a key role in Bologna’s qualification for the Champions League. His standout performances continued at the Euros, where he shone for Italy until their exit in the round of 16.

Despite having three years left on his contract, Bologna are willing to let him go for the right price, valuing him at £42 million. Chelsea have shown interest in the versatile defender, who can play centrally or on the left, but Arsenal are leading the race.

The Gunners, aiming to bolster their defensive options, view Calafiori as an ideal fit. Advanced talks are ongoing, with Arsenal poised to strike a deal, further strengthening Mikel Arteta’s squad.
