A MCDONALD’S in a popular European city break destination has drawn attention due to it having a unique feature.

Most people are familiar with the experience of a Maccies Drive Thru, with people able to order and receive their food from their car, without even having to remove their seatbelts.

But in Hamburg, in Germany, hungry visitors can access their food from a river, via a boat drive-thru, or “McBoat” as its known.

A small dock out the back of the restaurant enables kayakers, paddle boarders and anyone else travelling along the river to order and collect their food without the need to set food on dry land.

The dock has been open for nine years now, after first launching in 2015, and even had its own microphone and speakers for people to pull up and order.

However, this has since been removed, with customers instead able to order via the McDonald’s smartphone app instead.

During the spring and summer, the McBoat is open 24/7, as long as people are working at the restaurant, they’re happy to serve customers.

However, during the winter months, it closes, with fewer people needing to make use of it.

Instead of customers needing to go into the restaurant to collect their food, they instead simply have to bob around near the dock and wait for staff to bring their meal out to them.

One person who visited the float-thru was Instagram user Jordan Egbert (@counting.countries).

He declared it to be the coolest McDonald’s restaurant in the world.

In a video he shared to his followers, Jordan said: “This McDonald’s is on a floating dock.

“I like finding unique McDonald’s all over the world and I think this one takes the cake as the coolest.”

Jordan’s followers were equally impressed, with one saying: “Wow never knew of this one! So unique!”

Another said: “Cool! Now we’ve got another reason to visit Hamburg.”

A third added: “My dream way of eating Maccas.”

All you need to know about McDonald's

HERE'S all the crucial information about McDonald's you've always wanted to know...

There are other unique McDonald’s restaurants elsewhere in the world, including one in Taupo, New Zealand inside a decommissioned aeroplane.

Diners can enjoy their meals inside the cabin of the Second World War era Douglas DC-3, also known as Dakotas, which seats 20 customers at a time.

The restaurant brags about being the coolest McDonald’s in the world.

However, that appears to be up for debate, with plenty of people enjoying the Hamburg restaurant’s floating drive-thru option.

Elsewhere, one of the fast food franchises in Costa Adeje on Playa de Torviscas on the south coast of Tenerife has been described as having the “best views”.

The restaurant is set directly on a promenade and overlooks a sandy beach and beautiful blue waters.

Meanwhile, these could be the most beautiful McDonald’s restaurants around the world.

And this McDonald’s in Europe has its own moat and looks like a spaceship.
