War veteran who celebrated 104th birthday reveals surprising secret to long life
SPRIGHTLY Gordon Grenville-Hunt has celebrated his 104th birthday — putting his long life down to a full English every day.
The war veteran plumps for a hearty fry-up over the fruit salad offered by staff at his rest home.
It was his breakfast of choice on his big day — and he backed up his reputation for having a monster appetite with a lunch of fish and chips.
Gordon brushed off any concerns about his cholesterol levels by saying: “I have a cooked breakfast every day.
“It sets me up for the day. I could have a healthy fruit salad but I would never consider anything else other than a full English.”
Electrician Gordon served in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers during World War Two.
The dad of two went on to work for car-maker British Leyland in Oxford.
After the death of his second wife, Phyllis, in 2019 he moved to Dorset and lives in the Larks Leas Rest Home in Blandford.
Son Philip, 70, put his longevity down to his love of food.
He said: “He eats like a horse and is as stubborn as a mule. He’s the most positive person I know. His glass is overflowing, it’s never half-full.”
Larks Leas boss Becky Bailey said: “At 104, cholesterol levels aren’t high on his list of priorities. He’s very proud of his age.”
