Gautam Gambhir Reportedly Shoots Farewell Video With KKR At Eden Gardens, Set To Be Named India Head Coach Soon
New Delhi: The announcement of Gautam Gambhir as the next Indian head coach could be anytime soon after the Kolkata Knight Riders mentor reportedly visited the Eden Gardens in Kolkata to shoot a farewell video with the three-time Indian Premier League winners. According to sources, Gambhir was at KKR’s home ground on Saturday. Gambhir’s name started doing the rounds for India head coach’s job ever since it was reported that the former cricketer was approached by the BCCI.
Even BCCI secretary Jay Shah’s brief chat with Gambhir on the ground following KKR’s title-winning campaign in IPL 2024 also ignited the matter. “Yes, he did come to Eden Gardens yesterday,” a source told India.com on conditions of anonymity. The source also stated that it was a low-key affair and the fact that the two-time World Champion wanted to bid goodbye to his fans with a message. The video is also believed to contain Gambhir’s journey with KKR, including his IPL 2024 winning stint. It is expected to be released after BCCI announces him as the next head coach of the Indian team.
Earlier, after India’s T20 World Cup triumph, Shah announced that a new head coach will take charge from the limited-oves series in Sri Lanka. “Both coach and selector appointment will be made shortly. CAC has interviewed and shortlisted two names and after reaching Mumbai whatever they have decided we will go by that. VVS Laxman is going to Zimbabwe but new coach will join from Sri Lanka series,” Shah told select media.
In July, at an event in Abu Dhabi, Gambhir was asked whether he would love to coach the Indian team. In reply he said, “I have not answered this question, although a lot of people have asked me. But I have to answer you now. I would love to coach the Indian team. There is no bigger honour than coaching your national team. You are representing 140 crore Indians and those across the globe as well.”
