'That changes the game': Trump insiders raise risks of having to face Kamala Harris

Hedging their bet that President Joe Biden will stay in the 2024 presidential race despite questions about his age, members of Donald Trump's inner circle are hard at work preparing an offensive aimed at undermining Vice President Kamala Harris.

According to a report from the Washington Post, former president Trump is already leaning into Harris attacks, recently labeling her "Laffin' Kamala," and there will be more to come if Biden decides to step aside and the Democratic Party coalesces behind the VP.

As the Post's Isaac Arnsdorf, Josh Dawsey and Marianne LeVine combined to write, senior Trump adviser Jason Miller, recently told reporters, "I think the bottom falls out for Democrats with blue-collar, working-class people in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Michigan with Kamala Harris."

However, not everyone is on board, with some noting that the Trump campaign's main attacks on Biden — his health and his age — disappear with him if he steps off the stage and Trump becomes the elderly candidate with cognitive issues.

'Some advisers and allies acknowledged that Harris, 59, could change the race as a more vigorous campaigner with the potential to energize young voters and women. And they said her opportunity to choose a new running mate could further alter the dynamics of the matchup, especially if she adds a Midwestern governor such as Josh Shapiro (D-Pa.) or Gretchen Whitmer (D-Mich.) to the ticket," the Post is reporting.

Add to that, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) admitted the election dynamic would be radically altered and agreed with the Post's assessment.

“The policy debate doesn’t change, the capabilities of the candidate changes — all the problems associated with a declining Biden physically and mentally go away, "he observed. “If she picks a governor from Pennsylvania or Michigan that changes the game.”

Former DNC chair Donna Brazile suggested Harris presents another issue for Trump and his advisors where he could further alienate female voters.

"They have been throwing paint, rocks, mud and just about every other metaphor I could come up with since the day she was inaugurated … I feel like saying where have you been? This is no time for their team to start attacking any woman,” she suggested.
