Eight more remands over mass fight in Limassol

Eight more people were remanded in custody for two days on Saturday after being arrested in relation to a fight involving around 50 people which broke out last month.

The arrests bring the total number of people held over the fight to 21.

The eight most recent arrestees are aged between 22 and 48 years old.

The fight took place on June 27, with a large crowd of people, some armed with crowbars, sticks, and stones, descended on Limassol.

Six cars were damaged in the violence, with a gas cylinder reportedly thrown from aa fifth-floor window.

The fight, which was sparked by personal differences between two families, had reportedly come about as a result of an incident of sexual harassment of a young woman by a youth from one of the families.

The police’s investigation into the matter is ongoing.
