In the T20 World Cup final last week, India captain Rohit Sharma hinted that if Suryakumar Yadav hadn’t grabbed David Miller’s catch, he would have been removed from the team. Miller struck a wide full toss from Hardik Pandya in the match’s last over, but Suryakumar managed to catch the ball inside the ropes at long-off, realized it as he crossed the boundary, and then returned to finish an incredible catch. After Team India’s victory at the T20 World Cup, the Maharashtra government honored Rohit, Suryakumar, Shivam Dube, and Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Rohit disclosed what Suryakumar told him following the capture during the incident. If Suryakumar hadn’t finished the catch, the Indian captain joked that he would have removed him from the squad.

“Suryakumar Yadav said the ball landed in his hands, it’s good that it did…Otherwise, I would have dropped him from the team,” Rohit joked, leaving Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde and other members in splits.

Social media users were divided over Suryakumar’s catch, with many arguing that the boundary cushion was purposefully moved outside during the second innings to give the Indian team an unfair advantage.

Many people claimed that the catch was unfair after multiple camera views of it went popular on social media.

The boundary cushion was outside the line even during the Indian innings, hence the accusation was false.

Depending on the pitch being used for a game, it is a fairly frequent practice to move the boundary ropes in advance of a match.

“I am just grateful to be in that moment to do something special for the country…god’s plan it was,” Suryakumar had told PTI about the catch.
