The Mariners salvaged a tough series against the Orioles with a fun-in-the-sun win on the Fourth of July; now they have the challenge of keeping that momentum going against the Blue Jays, who have struggled this year but took a series from the Mariners in Toronto earlier this season.

- The Blue Jays made a roster move prior to tonight’s game, recalling RHP Ryan Burr from Triple-A. RHP Jose Cuas was optioned to Triple-A.
- RHP Emerson Hancock is at the park and will make Saturday’s start, with a roster move to come. Meanwhile, RHP Bryan Woo will is scheduled to make a rehab start Saturday in Everett, and RHP Gregory Santos is also slated to make an appearance in that came.

- 1982: In an early iteration of Julio Day, Julio Cruz went 3-4 at the plate, stole two bases, scored three runs and drove in two more to spark the Mariners to a 5-4 win over the NY Yankees in the Kingdome.
- 1995: Edgar Martínez is named A.L. Player of the Month for June. Edgar hit .402 with eight homers and took 28 walks, for a .761 slugging percentage and a .537 on base percentage in the 28 games during the month.
- 2011: Jamey Wright earned his first career save in his 500th career appearance in the Mariners 4-2 win over the A’s in 10 innings. It is the second most career appearances to notch a first career save, trailing only Frank Tanana, who had his first save in his 530th career appearance. Dustin Ackley went 2-for-3 with 2 runs and a home run to lead Seattle at the plate, and Felix Hernandez recorded a no-decision allowing 4 hits and 1 run (Kurt Suzuki solo HR in 8th inning) while striking out 10.
- 2015: Nelson Cruz is voted as the starting designated hitter for the American League squad in the 86th MLB All-Star game at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati…Cruz earns his 4th All-Star selection (2009, 2013-14) and 2nd consecutive fan-elected start.
