A flurry of transactions as the team welcomes Detroit to town.

You’ve got Jake Fraley’s bases-clearing triple still freshly in mind, the trio of runs he knocked in on the 4th of July helping lead the Cincinnati Reds to a sweep of the New York Yankees in the Bronx.

There’s surely a very, very prominent place in Jake’s mind where the memory of that triple is and will remain. It’s far from the most important thing that he’s been tasked with experiencing lately, however. His daughter Avery has been fighting leukemia since this winter, and it’s because of that that the Reds placed him on the Family Emergency List today.

According to David Bell (via The Enquirer’s Charlie Goldsmith), Avery ‘is fine,’ and this kind of periodic time away from the club was something that was always going to be in the works for Jake this year. While it’s far from the most important part of Jake’s official leave, the rules state that he’ll be out for at least the next 3 days and no more than 7 days, so factor that into your evaluation of the Reds roster for that time.

The move was just one that the Reds made on Friday, as they were also force to place catcher Luke Maile on the 10-day injured list with a herniated disc in his back. To fill the spots on the active roster, they promoted infielder Edwin Rios and added back catcher Austin Wynns, who has been designated for assignment (and gone unclaimed) twice by the Reds within the last two weeks.

Making way on the 40-man roster for Rios was Levi Jordan, who himself was DFA’d.

Keep in mind there are just 10 games remaining for the Reds between now and the All Star break.
