Everton handed major transfer boost as Philogene-Bidace rules out Barcelona move
Everton have been handed a major boost in their bid to sign Hull City winger Jaden Philogene-Bidace.
The 22-year-old has emerged as a hot property this summer, attracting interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
Spanish giants Barcelona were believed to be front-runners. According to reports, they had lined up a season-long loan deal with a £25 million purchase option tied to appearances.
Hull chief Acun Ilicali had also confirmed that Barca were in pole position to sign Philogene-Bidace, but the talented winger has ruled out a move to La Liga this summer.
He reaffirmed his desire to join Barca in the future but admitted that he wants to play in the Premier League next season.
“Barca is my dream, I hope I can sign for them one day,” Philogene-Bidace told Cadena SER.
“My idols are Ronaldinho and Neymar – I want to follow in their footsteps. I chose the Premier League because it is the clearest offer I have, but my dream is still La Liga.”
Philogene-Bidace’s remarks will come as a huge boost to Everton, who are interested in signing the winger who came up through the youth ranks at Aston Villa.
The Toffees have already bolstered their attack after signing Jack Harrison and Iliman Ndiaye, but Sean Dyche wants more additions to his squad amid plans to avoid another relegation scuffle next season.
The Toffees are lining up a potential £16 million move for the former England Under-21 international, who would be an excellent addition to Dyche’s squad.
However, they’ll need to move quickly to secure a deal, with West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur also eyeing a move for the forward.
Philogene-Bidace was in sensational form for the Tigers last season, notching 12 goals and six assists in 32 Championship appearances.
He would be a cost-effective alternative to former target Yankuba Minteh, who has joined Brighton & Hove Albion.
