Born in the Italian city of Genoa, Sabrina Salerno’s career took off in the 1980s.

Known mononymously as Sabrina, the now 56-year-old has sold over 20 million records worldwide.

Sabrina has also had ten international hits, including three number ones, during her career.

However, she is perhaps best known internationally for her 1987 single Boys (Summertime Love).

This was from her self-titled debut studio album, which included nine singles altogether.

As for The Boys (Summertime Love), the track topped the charts in France and Switzerland, and peaked at No. 3 in the United Kingdom.

Further popularity came due to the song’s famous video, which featured suggestive scenes of Sabrina dancing in a bikini.

This included the bikini top sliding down and therefore repeatedly revealing varying amounts of her nipples.

In response, the BBC added black bars around the image when the video was aired on Top of the Pops in June 1988.

Having sold over 1.5 million copies to date worldwide, it remains Sabrina’s trademark hit.

Sabrina’s other popular songs include All Of Me (Boy Oh Boy), My Chico, Gringo and Like a Yo-Yo, to name just a few.

Despite four decades having passed since Boys (Summertime Love) was released, Sabrina barely seems to have aged in that time.

Her career started out in modelling after claiming victory in a beauty contest held in Liguria, her native region.

In 1984, Sabrina made her first television appearance on Premiatissima, an Italian prime time show on Canale 5.

Fast forward two years and her debut single Sexy Girl was released, sung in English.

It was produced by Claudio Cecchetto, who also worked with other artists including Jovanotti, Sandy Marton and Finley.

Ultimately, Sexy Girl became a Top 20 hit in Sabrina’s native Italy and was a modest international success.

Her other work includes releasing a 2010 duet cover of Blondie’s hit Call Me, alongside Samantha Fox.

The single peaked at No. 4 on the Italian Dance Singles Sales Chart.
