Beauty fans rave over £1.19 essential that fixes fake tan mishaps – and it fits in your handbag
ONE of the many highlights of summer is being able to get a gorgeous tan after bathing in the sunshine.
But with continued cooler and wetter weather expected for the rest of July across Scotland, this doesn’t look likely.
Self-tanning is expected to be the way to go for a glow this summer[/caption]Which means most of us will need to turn to fake tan to get our sun-kissed glow instead.
Although it can take more effort to apply compared to lying in the sun, self-tans definitely have its pros.
For starters, you can have the perfect glow without the risk of painful sunburn, peeling skin or awkward natural tan lines.
And you can control how dark the colour goes with so many colours and products on offer.
But what about those annoying stains on your clothes as it rubs off throughout the day?
Self-tan often transfers onto our clothes because we sweat, and the moisture lifts the bronzers off your skin and allows it to rub into other surfaces.
It create a barrier between the skin and clothing meaning your tan is less likely to be removed by any friction

Luckily, one expert has revealed her top tip for preventing fake tan stains on your clothes.
Melanie Brownlow, founder of St. Moriz, suggested using Vaseline on those patches where the tan is starting to transfer onto your outfits.
So it’s worth keeping a tub in your bag on those glam nights out.
Melanie explained: “A tip for avoiding staining your clothing is carrying a product like Vaseline so that if any clothing starts to rub you can apply this.
“This will create a barrier between the skin and clothing meaning your tan is less likely to be removed by any friction.”
Vaseline can be picked up for as little as £1.19 from bargain retailers like B&M.
We previously told how another beauty fan shared her £2 hack to stop fake tan from wrecking your clothes.
Lana Johnston took to her TikTok account to share her top tip to stop it from transferring onto clothing.
And she explains that it also works on bedsheets so your duvets aren’t ruined the morning after applying.
She promised followers that it would lead to “no more sticky tan”, adding: “Thank me later.”
And it’s all thanks to a surprising product sprayed on after the tan – dry shampoo.
Lana said: “I used St Tropez classic tan spray then used dry shampoo on the creases to prevent transfer to my clothes.”
6 tanning tricks for a flawless glow without breaking the bank
WHILE some products and spray tans can cost a fortune, here are ways to get a flawless look without breaking the bank.
- Super dupe – Avoid splashing out on top tanning brands with a trip to B&M. It is full of bargains and reduced prices.
- Throw the towel in – Prepping skin is crucial for a streak-free tan. Exfoliation is a key but instead of spending money on mitts or scrubs, repurpose an old towel. The rough texture is perfect for sloughing off dead cells, leaving skin ready to absorb the tanning product evenly.
- Sock it – No tanning mitt? No problem. Pop a couple of old clean socks on your hand and use them to buff in your tan instead.
- That’s handy – Areas of dry skin, like elbows, knees and ankles, can absorb more tanning product, resulting in dark patches. To avoid this, apply hand cream to these places before tanning.
- Removal service – If you end up with streaks or dark patches, don’t fork out for a tanning remover. Instead, gently rub the area with a cotton pad soaked in lemon juice or leftover make-up remover.
- Glow for it – For a flawless Love Island-inspired glow, mix sparkly eyeshadow into body cream and rub it into your skin.
