Firefighters working to get wildfire under control in Mariposa County
MARIPOSA — A raging wildfire forced evacuation in parts of Mariposa County on the Fourth of July.
The blaze broke out around 6:30 p.m. in the area of French Road and Highway 49 in Mariposa. As of 9:50 p.m., the fire had burned through 400 acres and was 0% contained, according to Cal Fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The following areas are under mandatory evacuation orders:
- Hospital Road, from Silver Creek to the End
- Grosjean Road
- Alta Vista Road
- Avoca Vale
- Old Highway North, from Highway 140 to Wild Peach
- Slaughterhouse Road
Evacuation warnings are also in place for the following areas:
- Hospital Road
- Smith Road, from Highway 140 to Hospital Road
- Parts of Highway 140
- Lakeview Road
Officials are asking people to stay out of the fire area. Multiple road closures are in place.
A temporary evacuation point is available at New Life Christian Church, located at 5089 Cole Road in Mariposa.
