Redditor Irissteensma shared the shopping tip in a post.

She advised those on a budget to avoid purchasing drugstore goods if they’re not on clearance.

“Don’t ever buy anything at a chain drugstore, not on sale,” she wrote.

“The sales tend to cycle every three weeks.

“If it’s not on sale now, it will be soon.”

The opposite is true for sales, where she recommends buying multiples.

“True BOGO (buy one get one free) sales are few and far between these days, so if a store has one going on that encompasses your brand of setting powder or another product you frequently replenish, STOCK UP,” she said.

“Sometimes the prices at grocery stores are cheaper than drug stores – check them out.”

Special sales, she added, happen twice a year and can save shoppers the most money.

“Cosmetic resets usually happen twice a year- right before and after they do, there will be lots of makeup on clearance. This can be awesome,” she said.

The resets, she revealed, often occur in early spring and fall.

She warned those who struggle with over-shopping during sales.

“Don’t get sucked into buying something just because it’s on clearance, last chance, final sale, etc. (This applies to places like T.J. Maxx as well),” she said.

Often, a “deal” can get people to jump the gun on a purchase they wouldn’t originally make.

“If you were on the fence about something but the price was putting you off, fine; however, if it’s something you had no intention of buying and is nothing you really need, think long and hard before purchasing,” she said.

“Those ‘bargains’ can add up to a ‘what the heck was I thinking’ pile.”

Other shoppers added their tips and tricks for drugstore makeup on a budget.

“End of the year is a frequent time for things to get marked down at Walgreens,” said one commenter.

“They’ll start clearance tagging by Halloween and mark them down cheaper before Christmas.

“I’ve noticed Target gets more frequent discontinuations and mini resets. Walgreens gets one huge cosmetic reset a year, which starts in January.”
