Tens of thousands of polling stations have opened up and down the UK as millions of voters head out to vote in the General Election.

Voting day is finally here after weeks of campaigning, which saw candidates try to win over voters with their pledges to change the country.

Polling stations opened their doors at 7am and will close at 10pm.

There are around 40,000 polling stations across the country where voters will select their candidate in the booth.

One of the key changes in this General Election is the requirement to bring a valid photo IDa new rule since the Elections Act that passed two years ago.

If you registered to vote, you should have received a polling card in the post.
