Mariners Game #88: 7/3/24, BAL at SEA
Oh, we’re over halfway there, woah this offense is living on a prayer
The Mariners dropped what was ostensibly a winnable game last night, once again failing to convert any opportunities offensively and squandering a fine effort by their starter. Tonight it’s Logan Gilbert’s turn to try to keep the team in it long enough for the offense to wake up and do...something, anything.

News:
- Mitch Garver remains out of the lineup today, but he did take swings in the cage pregame and Servais says he hopes he’ll be available off the bench tonight.
- Gregory Santos pitched an inning for Tacoma yesterday in his first rehab start and his first competitive action since last season. He threw 13 pitches, 9 of them strikes, with one strikeout and one hit (a single). His fastball was 97-98 mph. Also some poor fellow tried to bunt for a base hit off Santos and wound up fouling it into his face and having to leave the game. Bunting 99: not as easy as Luke Raley makes it look. Santos will make a couple more appearances in Tacoma and is projecting to return to the team around the All-Star Break.
- In case you missed the announcement yesterday, Mariners prospects Cole Young and Harry Ford have been named to the Futures Game.
Today in Mariners history:
- 1985: Mike Moore tossed a complete game, allowing only four hits, as the Mariners defeated the Brewers 7-1. Forty years later, I would struggle to remember that Mike Moore is the Mariner, Matt Moore is the Angel.
- 1991: Jay Buhner has the first two-homer game of his career as the Mariners squeak past the White Sox, 3-2.
- 2010: Ichiro and Cliff Lee are elected to the All Star team. It is Ichiro’s 10th selection, and Lee’s 2nd.
- 2022: This Julio homer:

Julio also stole a base in this game, becoming the fastest player in MLB history to reach 15+ steals and 20+ stolen bases, reaching the milestone in just 81 career games.
- 2023: Logan Gilbert’s complete game shutout against the Giants. Also, Mike Ford finishes a triple shy of the cycle as the Mariners win 6-0 over San Francisco.
