Norwich City failed with an attempt to recruit Standard Liege director of football Fergal Harkin at the end of last season, it has been claimed in Belgium.

 

The Canaries have seen some change in recent months after David Wagner was sacked as boss.

 

Norwich have now appointed former Nordsjaelland coach Johannes Hoff Thorup as Wagner’s successor.

 

 

Norwich are keen to strengthen across all departments though and they held an interest in Standard Liege’s Harkin.

 

Harkin had an opportunity to leave Standard Liege and join Norwich at the end of last season, according to Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri.

 

 

It has been suggested that former Manchester City partnerships and pathways manager Harkin was also interested in the project laid out to him by the Championship outfit.

 

However, Standard Liege CEO Pierre Locht was against letting Harkin leave the Belgian outfit to join Norwich.

 

 

The 47-year-old spent 13 years with Manchester City before taking up the director of football role at Standard Liege in the summer of 2022.
