Wrexham ace Paul Mullin to miss club’s tour to US and Canada and start of season after undergoing surgery on his spine

PAUL MULLIN will miss Wrexham’s pre-season tour of the US and Canada after undergoing spinal surgery.

The goal-mad striker has gone under the knife to fix an ongoing problem with his lower back and hamstrings.

It means Mullin will play no part in Wrexham’s North American summer tour.

Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have set up glamour ties against Bournemouth, Vancouver Whitecaps and Chelsea.

But those across the Atlantic hoping to see Mullin in action will be left disappointed.

And the 29-year-old will also miss the start of Wrexham’s new campaign in League One following last season’s promotion.

Wrexham confirmed: “The club’s three-time, back-to-back top scorer and player of the season has managed the injury through conservative treatment following three years of concern.

“However, during off-season training it became evident that this approach would not be able to continue and, following several consultations, it was determined that surgery would be the best way forward.

“Mullin underwent surgery in London in the middle of June to ensure he is fit for the majority of the 2024-25 campaign, as we look ahead to our first season back in Sky Bet League One.

“There is no timeframe as yet on Mullin’s return, who will work through rehab with the club’s medical department to ensure he can return to full fitness.”

Mullin is sure to be cursing his luck after also missing the start of the previous season in League Two.

After jetting out to America for Wrexham’s tour, he was left with a punctured lung and four fractured ribs following a collision with Manchester United goalie Nathan Bishop.

Mullin is now entering his fourth season with Wrexham, having joined them in the National League from Cambridge.

He has since scored 105 goals in 140 matches under manager Phil Parkinson.

And Mullin still dreams of receiving a call-up for Wales, having been put on standby by ex-boss Rob Page last year.

Wrexham’s new League One campaign starts on August 10 with a home clash against Wycombe Wanderers.

They then pay a visit to Sheffield United in the first round of the Carabao Cup.

And Wrexham complete August with tough games against Bolton, Reading and Peterborough.
