Topeka church sells fireworks for charity

TOPEKA (KSNT) - A Topeka church is taking advantage of Independence Day by providing the community with fireworks and giving the proceeds to charity.

Mission Hill Church in west Topeka has been running a fourth of July firework stand for more than 20 years according to their lead pastor, Steve Peoples. He said every dollar they make goes to a handful of charities, one of them being Convoy of Hope.

Peoples told 27 News the group does all kinds of humanitarian and disaster relief work around the world.

"We like to do this just to give the money away," Peoples said. "We provide a great price for customers and then we give the money that we make away. So we do it for other people, which is kind of fun."

The Mission Hill tent is located at the corner of Southwest 17th Street and Southwest Indian Hills Road. The tend will be open 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. through the Fourth of July.
