'Widespread panic': House Dems fear Biden will topple last standing check to Trump's power

Democrats fearful that President Joe Biden will cost them control of Congress are mulling calling on him to withdraw from the race against convicted felon former President Donald Trump, according to a new report.

Dozens of Democrats in the House of Representatives terrified of what Republican control would mean should Trump reclaim the White House in 2025 are now considering co-signing a letter to that effect, a senior party official told Bloomberg Wednesday.

"Democrats running for reelection in traditionally safe Democratic districts are circulating the letter," the report notes, "underscoring how widespread the panic is within the party."

Reps. Lloyd Doggett (D-TX) and reportedly Raúl Grijalva (D-AZ) were the lone sitting House Democrat to make such claims publicly as of Wednesday afternoon, but reports show they had a virtual "vent session" Tuesday evening to address the "donkey in the room."

Rep. Mike Quigley (D-IL) also told Bloomberg he was not impressed by recent claims that Biden's poor debate performance was just a bad night.

Top Biden campaign donor Charles Myers, founder of Signum Global Advisors, urged the president to show the nation what he's seen in private, that he's "very together and very alert," Bloomberg reports.

But calls for Biden to withdraw have also been met with pushback from public-facing officials who note that Democrats have already funneled $240 million into his campaign and argue several swing state laws might prevent it.

Former federal prosecutor Joyce Vance was just one of many voices Wednesday to express outrage at what she dubbed a double standard for Biden, 81, and Trump, 78.

"Folks who are now making snide comments about whether Joe Biden is awake in the middle of the day never showed this level of concern about Trump watching Fox News and Tweeting throughout the day," she wrote.
