Man arraigned on child sex abuse image indictment in Ulster County
KINGSTON, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Ulster County District Attorney's Office (UCDA) announced the arraignment of a North Arlington, New Jersey man in a child sex abuse image case. David Mulhauser, 42, faces a 25-count indictment, including charges of promoting and possessing a sexual performance by a child.
The indictment alleges that Mulhauser downloaded images depicting the sexual abuse of children between August 15 and October 26 of 2022. The initial investigation by the Putnam County Sheriff's Office and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) resulted in the sex abuse images being connected to an IP address at a house in Gardiner in Ulster County, where Mulhauser reportedly lived at the time.
In a collaboration between DHS and the Ulster County Sheriff's Office, a search warrant was executed at the Gardiner home on February 23, 2023. According to the UCDA, over 170 videos and 443 items of child sexual abuse material were recovered in the search, leading to Mulhauser's arrest.
The Ulster County Court granted a full stay-away order of protection for the victims at the arraignment. The 25-count indictment additionally included charges for criminal possession of a firearm and unlawful surveillance.
Mulhauser was remanded to the Ulster County Jail with bail set at $100,000 cash, $250,000 bond,
and $350,000 partially secured bond. If convicted on all counts, he faces up to 10 to 20 years in state prison.
