Ex-NFL running back Marshawn Lynch, California Gov. Gavin Newsom launching podcast
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE/The Hill) - California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) is starting a podcast with former NFL running back Marshawn “Beast Mode” Lynch and agent Doug Hendrickson, iHeart Podcasts announced Wednesday.
The podcast, named "Politickin'," promises compelling conversations, valuable takeaways, and "a deeper understanding of what it takes to excel in their respective fields." The podcasts' producers say Newsom will address the current state of affairs "in a way audiences have never heard from him before."
The other two members of the podcast trio, Lynch and Hendrickson, will be joining Newsom around the microphones. The launch of the show comes as Newsom is among those floated to replace President Biden on the 2024 ticket should Biden choose to end his campaign.
According to the announcement, Lynch is set to bring insider stories from his career in football including "what it takes to achieve greatness on and off the field." Hendrickson is set to offer insight into leadership and the drive to make a positive impact.
Lynch, nicknamed “Beast Mode,” was one of the NFL’s most successful and beloved running backs in the 2010s. An Oakland native, his career with the Seattle Seahawks was best remembered by his powerful running style and unabashed demeanor.
He famously attended a press conference before Super Bowl XLIX and answered every question with, “I’m just here so I don’t get fined.” The star has since served as a spokesperson for Skittles and remained in sports media as a football commentator.
It’s not the first time Newsom and Lynch have crossed paths. Newsom served as a character witness for Lynch after he was under investigation by the NFL following a DUI arrest in 2013.
"Politickin'" is also expected to welcome others to the recording room for more in-depth discussions. The podcast is set to debut on July 15.
