Guardians take it easy on White Sox for some reason, wait until 9th inning to walk off
morning N&N for July 3, 2024
The struggle was real.
The 24-62 White Sox rolled into town to take on the best team in the AL, and the game was close pretty much the entire time.
Chicago scored early to take a 1-0 lead but the Guardians had built a cruising Carlos Carrasco a 3-1 lead by the end of the 5th inning. Carrasco stopped cruising in the 6th and gave up a game-tying 2-run home run.
Sox starter Chris Flexen immediately gave the lead right back, allowing 3 in the bottom of the inning. Tom Hamilton basically declared the game over at 6-3, but that lead also lasted a very short amount of time.
Heading into the 7th inning stretch it was 6-6, and it stayed there until Bo Naylor pinch hit in the bottom of the 9th. He hit a sac fly to center and Luis Robert felt the pass rush and decided to not step into a throw, so the run scored easily from third. 7-6.
