President Joe Biden has reportedly acknowledged that he may not be able to save his reelection run after stuttering and stumbling through the first debate.

Biden told a key alley that he is aware he may not be able to recover from last Thursday’s debate against Donald Trump unless he demonstrates to Americans he is capable over the next few days.

‘He knows if he has two more events like that, we’re in a different place,’ the anonymous ally who spoke with Biden over the past 24 hours told The New York Times on Wednesday morning.

All eyes will be on the president for his interview with ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos on Friday and his campaign rallies in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania on Friday and Saturday, respectively.

Biden is ‘well aware of the political challenge he faces’, an unidentified top adviser to him told the newspaper.

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Metro.co.uk.

White House spokesman Andrew Bates told The Times that the report was ‘absolutely false’ and that they were not given sufficient time to respond.

The CBS News poll on Wednesday morning showed Biden trailing Trump 48% nationally to 50% nationwide, and 48% to 51% in battleground states. The Biden campaign is reportedly on edge waiting for the results of an internal survey.

Should Joe Biden drop out of the race?

Biden is still fully committed in his run for reelection, according to the ally. Still, the report is the first to suggest that Biden may be considering dropping out of the race.

Already, some top Democrats are calling for Biden to drop out of the race this week.

Rep Lloyd Doggett of Texas on Tuesday referenced former President Lyndon Johnson’s ‘painful decision to withdraw’ and stated that ‘President Biden should do the same’.

Nearly one-third, or 32%, of Democrats believe that Biden should abandon his reelection bid following the debate, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Tuesday.
