Oklahoma official says Steve Bannon is in jail because schools don't teach the Bible

Oklahoma's top education official argued that former President Donald Trump and Steve Bannon were facing legal problems because the Bible is not taught in public schools.

Days after mandating that the Bible must be taught in all public schools in the Sooner State, Oklahoma State Superintendent of Public Instruction Ryan Walters appeared on Bannon's War Room podcast to promote his decision.

During the Wednesday podcast, guest host Ben Harnwell asked Walters to "explain exactly what has happened in Oklahoma and why you why you push this?"

"You know, when you look at an issue like this, what you've seen in our schools is a radical left," Walters opined. "And one of the things that they've done is they've taken the Bible out of schools. They say, listen, you can't talk about our rights coming from God."

"I mean, you see what's happening to President Trump right now, where they're arresting him," he continued. "They're giving this banana republic nonsense in a courtroom. Look what they're doing to Steve Bannon right now."

Earlier this month, Bannon began serving a four-month prison sentence after being found guilty of contempt of Congress.

Walters defended forcing biblical education by pointing out that "the founders cited the Bible."

"We want our kids to know our traditions," he insisted. "We want our kids to understand American history. And so the Bible is absolutely a part of it."

"So we're very proud to be the first state in the country to put the Bible back in."

Walter was recently confronted by a CNN host who pointed out, "Thomas Jefferson advocated for freedom of religion, actually, not the establishment of a religion."

"The Bible includes also pornographic material," CNN's host told Walters. "Something you've come out against."
