The organization disclosed this on Tuesday, July 2nd, by publishing a report on the executions of these Afghan citizens in Shiraz Central Prisons.

The report identified the individuals as Ali Allah Bakhsh and Afzal Allah Bakhsh, who were executed in the early hours of Monday, July 1st. Hengaw emphasized that these individuals had been sentenced to death by Iranian judicial authorities for drug-related crimes.

According to the report, they were detained by Iranian forces three years ago and have been in prison since then. So far, official sources from the Islamic Republic have not commented formally on the matter.

Additionally, Iranian human rights organizations had previously reported an 84% increase in executions in Iran, stating that in 2023, at least 471 individuals, including Afghan citizens, were executed for drug-related offences in Iran.

Earlier, Hengaw had also stated that the Islamic Republic had announced the detention of 14 Afghan prisoners in the first four months of 2024.

According to statistics from the Islamic Republic of Iran, approximately six thousand Afghan citizens are imprisoned in this country’s prisons on various charges, including drug-related crimes and deliberate murder.
