One of 'Sex and the City's Most Divisive Love Interests Is Open to a Comeback

0

Over the years, Sex and the City and its reboot series And Just Like That has seen its fair share of love interests come and go. And while some love stories are a resounding “hell no” with viewers, like Sara Ramirez’s Che Diaz for Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), others had some mixed support.

Landing the top spot for the most divisive love interest is, of course, Charlotte’s (Kristin Davis) first husband Trey (played by Kyle MacLachlan).

After all, while Charlotte and Trey’s relationship was rocky from the get-go, their marriage imploded because of both of them, and many fans couldn’t see Trey as the villain he might’ve been set out to be.

Looking back at his time in the show, MacLachlan admitted watching Trey is quite cringe-y. “There are a few, a handful [of scenes] where I think back and I go, I mean, you just have to close your eyes and jump in and you’re just like, ‘OK, here we go and trust that everything is going to be OK,’ which it was,” the actor told Us Weekly. “They were a lot of fun.”

Most of all, MacLachlan said he’d be open to making a comeback. “Let me get my contract out here,” he said. “Anything is possible. Who knows?”

“I would be open to a cameo,” he added. “I think that could be a very interesting direction, a new direction for Trey.”

For those who might be a little rusty about who Trey was, let’s take a second to look back at their relationship.

Trey came into Charlotte’s life when she was adamant she’d soon meet the love of her life, get married, and start a family. So, when Trey appeared out of the blue and seemed to tick all the boxes, Charlotte fell for him in one fell swoop. In fact, she even proposed to him after a month of them together.

Not knowing how to react, and fearful of losing her, Trey agreed to marriage. “Alrighty,” he famously said, per Screenrant.

After their fairytale Scottish wedding, however, Trey and Charlotte were met with obstacles throughout. In addition to his struggles with impotence (which he refused to talk about), the two also butt heads about wanting to have a baby – Charlotte wanted one right away while Trey wanted to work on their relationship first.

But that doesn’t mean Trey was super supportive either. When Charlotte was in the throws of IVF struggles, he famously brought home a cutout cardboard of a baby, as if it replaced having one of their own. Tone deaf, we know.

Another major conflict they had centered around money and Trey’s mom Bunny (played by the late Frances Sternhagen). While Bunny was sure Charlotte only married Trey for his money (and his luxury Park Ave apartment), Charlotte didn’t shy away from using his money to buy herself gifts, completely redecorate their apartment and even renegotiate their prenup agreement.

Safe to say Charlotte and Trey’s relationship was doomed from the beginning, after all, both of them ended up hurt and being the villains at the end of the day. So how would Trey be included in And Just Like That? That’s a question for the writers to tackle!
