Suki Waterhouse and Robert Pattinson Met at Game Night With Al Pacino
Even if you’re a girl who has had a crush on Robert Pattinson since his Harry Potter days (ahem), we all have to admit that he and Suki Waterhouse seem very well matched. Waterhouse is on the cover of British Vogue this month ahead of the release of her second album, Memoir of a Sparklemuffin. (She readily admits that the title is “absolutely ridiculous.”) In the profile, she opened up about her relationship with Pattinson and what life is like now that they have a daughter.
Waterhouse revealed that she and Pattinson met at a game night in L.A., which she called “one of the things people do here to congregate.” This was no average game night, though. The singer recalled that she and her future partner were playing a “very, very intense” game of Werewolf (a Mafia or Traitors-esque game) with some of the most famous actors in the world.
“There were lots of ‘big’ characters, real heavy hitters,” she told the magazine. “Al Pacino was there. Javier [Bardem] and Penelope [Cruz] were there … and, you know, everyone was really acting.” A really good charity-auction item would be this: “You sit in the corner silently while watching Penelope Cruz play a board game.” Just a thought.
The future couple really hit it off at game night and were “giggling at the absurdity of the whole thing.” As with all game nights, there was a guy there taking things really seriously. In this case, it was a director who separated Waterhouse and Pattinson for laughing too much. The pair reconnected months later and have been together since.
In March of this year, Waterhouse gave birth to their first child, a girl. She told Vogue that while the pregnancy was planned (“One day we looked at each other and said, ‘Well, this is as ready as we’re going to be.’”), motherhood has still been “shocking.” In one anecdote, Waterhouse recounted her realization that a newborn needs to be fed every two hours. “I was alarmed in the hospital when they kept waking me up,” she explained. “I was like, ‘Excuse me? Is this what this entails?’”
Luckily, Pattinson has proved to be an excellent father. “For someone who’s quite an anxious person, he’s been very calm,” Waterhouse said, later calling him “the dad I could have hoped for.” Everyone say it with me now: “Awwww.”
