Midwest City PD announce 49th Citizens Academy registration
MIDWEST CITY, Okla. (KFOR) - Registration for the 49th Citizens Academy is now open for those interested in the possibility of taking an inside look of the Midwest City Police Department’s daily operations.
The Midwest City Police Department’s Citizen's Academy is designed for people who are interested in being introduced to different programs and resources the police department has to offer. Academy members will get a tour of the police department, the jail, the forensic lab and 911 center. Members will also receive presentations and demonstrations involving patrol techniques, K-9, defensive tactics, law enforcement driving, investigations, firearms and SWAT.
Academy activities include DUI education night and crisis intervention/verbal de-escalation presentations. The program is sociable and educational, according to Midwest City Police.
The academy is held one night a week (Thursdays) from 6 to 9 p.m. for 12-13 weeks. Students receive a class shirt, class photo, graduation certificate and video of their class. There is no charge for attending although class size is limited.
The academy is normally open to people 21 years of age or older who live or work in Midwest City.
