AMAZON has revealed that thousands of shoppers could get 50% off Prime membership – but not everyone will be eligible.

All 18-to-22-year-olds in the UK can now purchase Prime membership for just £4.49 a month, or £47.49 a year.

Prime membership normally costs £8.99 a month, or £95 a year, and can be purchased via the Amazon app or website.

The membership entitles shoppers to fast delivery and exclusive discounts as well as entertainment from Prime Video and Amazon Music.

John Boumphrey, UK country manager at Amazon, said the deal would make Prime’s benefits “even more accessible to young people” who are “going to university, starting work, or moving out of home for the first time”.

Prime members can also access free food delivery on Deliveroo and HelloFresh as well as discounted cinema tickets, free games through Prime Gaming, and thousands of free books and magazines each month.

Prime will also release exclusive perks tailored for its young members, including fashion discounts and reduced price travel.

It comes ahead of Amazon Prime Day which is taking place on July 16 and 17.

The deals bonanza sees huge reductions across everything from beauty and homeware. to electrical and clothes.

Amazon often offers vouchers and discounts to access its Prime services, so its worth keeping your eyes peeled even if you’re not eligible for this offer.

Plus those considering membership can get a free 30-day trial to try it out – just remember to cancel at the end of the term to avoid payment if you decide against it.

Even if you’re not eligible for a long-term discount the service offers a raft of benefits that it says make its membership fee worth the monthly payment, but not everyone is aware of the hidden exclusives.

Amazon Prime members have access to free video games plus scores of freebies.

And right now Prime members can get five months of premium Amazon Music Unlimited streaming for free (it’s usually £10.99 per month).

Members also have access to Amazon Prime day offers, which see prices slashed on a huge range of goods.

More ways to save at Amazon

The Amazon Warehouse hub is where returned goods are relisted to be resold with further reductions.

This is a great idea for shoppers who don’t mind buying something pre-loved, but that’s still in great condition.

A range of products are sold in the Amazon warehouse and you can find everything from kitchen appliances to laptops and lawnmowers.

We spotted a used Russell Hobbs steam iron selling for £16.82 in the Amazon Warehouse, which was labelled as “like new”.

The same model was listed on the Russell Hobbs website for £24.99 reduced from its original price of £49.99.

The Amazon Outlet has hundreds of items that are surplus to requirements and being sold off at a substantial discount.

Unlike the warehouse, these items are brand new goods but just ones that Amazon or its partners want to move quickly.

All of the deals are for a limited time and you can search by category, price and discount.

The Amazon Renewed section is a great way to bag big discounts on previously owned products and handy for tech items such as phones, tablets and games consoles.

All of the items in the renewed section are pre-owned and refurbished items that have been professionally inspected and tested to meet quality standards.

Amazon has a special tab marked “Today’s Deals” where shoppers can find different limited-time offers each day.

You can search by department, price and discount and some of the offers are “recommended” to you based on your purchase history and views.

There are some huge discounts to be had on the deals of the day, and we spotted some offers that were almost 50% off when we checked.
