‘Joh Bhi Hai, Paon Mein, Dimag Mein, Dil Mein…’: Suryakumar Yadav Reveals Rohit Sharma’s Speech Before T20 World Cup Final
New Delhi: Suryakumar Yadav revealed Rohit Sharma’s powerful speech just before the T20 World Cup 224 final against South Africa stating everyone in the dressing room was moved by the words from the Indian captain. A few hours later, Rohit became the second Indian captain to lift the T20 World Cup as the Men in Blue fought till the final ball to overcome South African challenge by seven runs in a thrilling encounter.
One of the most fearless Indian captains, Rohit didn’t shy away from taking bold decisions in the tournament – promoting Axar Patel above the batting order or holding Ravindra Jadeja in bowling for long. In the end, the 37-year-old ticked all the boxes to return home as a champion captain.
“I can’t climb this mountain alone. If I have to reach the peak, I will need everyone’s oxygen. He also said, ‘Joh bhi hai, paon mein, dimag mein, dil mein (Whatever you have in your legs, mind and heart), just bring everything to the game. If that happens, we will not regret the night’. We all were moved,” Suryakumar was quoted as saying to Indian Express after India’s triumph.
For the unknown, the Indians made a brilliant comeback to win the game. Chasing a target of 177, South Africa were cruise control with Heinrich Klassen hitting the Indian bowlers mercilessly. However, Klassen’s downfall in the 17th over turned the game in India’s favour.
In fact, Suryakumar took a match-defining catch in the last over to dismiss David Miller, which would be remembered for generations to come. Speaking about Rohit’s connection with his teammates, Suryakumar said the Indian captain is everyone’s darling.
“He connects with the players. Off the field, be it in a hotel room, or on the beach, he connects with everyone. So when a crunch situation comes, players know that he (Rohit) will back us. One feels I have to deliver for this man for the confidence and respect he gives to everyone,” Suryakumar added.
